Hello, my name is OOO. I recently graduated with a degree in graphic design from OOO in Montreal. Before turning to design, I worked in research, and I came to Canada to pursue a more creative job. I was born and raised in Korea, and I had the opportunity to work in three countries in Africa. With my experience navigating diverse cultures, I would like to bring a unique global perspective to visual storytelling as a designer.
2. Can you tell us about your academic background in graphic design?
I recently graduated with a graphic design degree from OOO in Montreal. During my studies, I had the opportunity to work on various projects, including print and digital designs. Additionally, I learned to use Figma on my own, which has allowed me to expand my design skills.
3. Why do you do illustration as a hobby?
I moved to Montreal because I wanted to do more creative work. That's why I chose graphic design as my main job, and I do illustration as a side project. Drawing helps me be more creative, and I think it adds a unique touch to my design work, especially in packaging. I enjoy doing both because they inspire each other, and it helps me grow my skills.
4. Do you have experience managing creative projects under pressure?
Although I am a recent graduate, I have worked on several school projects with tight deadlines, especially for my final exhibition. This taught me to manage my time well, set priorities, and meet deadlines while ensuring the quality of the work. I believe this experience has prepared me to face similar challenges in a professional environment.
5. How do you ensure compliance with a company's graphic standards throughout a project?
During my studies, I learned the importance of adhering to graphic guidelines, whether for print or digital projects. I pay close attention to detail to ensure that each element meets established standards, regularly checking my designs throughout the process. I am also open to feedback to improve compliance.
6. What was your internship experience at OOO?
I completed a three-week internship at OOO, a marketing agency. During this internship, I developed a portfolio for one of their representative branding projects in view of their website redesign. This allowed me to apply my graphic design skills while contributing to the agency's image. Afterwards, I created content for social media, which taught me to adapt my communication style to the target audience. I also participated in internal meetings, where I could exchange ideas with the team and understand the project development process.

I used a loop shape to create a cohesive design across the cans, incorporating vibrant illustrations of the ingredients for each flavor. The project received a lot of praise from both my teachers and classmates, which made it a rewarding experience for me
9. Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I envision myself as a well-established graphic designer, having gained extensive experience andexpertise in the field. I hope to be working on innovative projects that push the boundaries of design, particularly in the areas of branding and packaging. Additionally, I aspire to develop my career as an illustrator, creating unique artwork that tells compelling stories and resonates with audiences. I would love to collaborate with authors or brands to produce illustrated books or campaigns that blend my graphic design skills with my passion for illustration. Ultimately, I aim to contribute to projects that not only showcase my creativity but also have a positive impact on the community, whether through design, storytelling, or both.
10. How do you stay up-to-date with graphic design trends?
I subscribe to several YouTube channels dedicated to design, as well as blogs like Behance and Dribbble. I also participate in webinars to learn new techniques and trends. Additionally, to fill in the gaps of what I didn’t learn in school, I constantly take online courses to improve my skills.
11. How do you approach feedback on your work?
I view feedback as a learning opportunity. When given input on my work, I try to keep an open mind and understand the other person's perspective. I take notes and analyze how I can incorporate that feedback into my future projects. This helps me improve my skills and produce higher-quality designs.
12. Can you describe a time when you had to resolve a conflict within a team?
During a team project at school, there was a conflict regarding the distribution of work. One member felt overwhelmed by the visual design, while another focused on research. I organized a meeting to redistribute tasks more equitably and encourage better communication. As a result, we were able to finish the project on time and in good collaboration.
13. What is your design process? How do you develop your ideas?
My design process starts with research and inspiration. I take the time to understand the client's brief and analyze trends and competitors. Then, I sketch and play with different ideas before choosing the direction I want to explore. I then create mock-ups and refine the design by incorporating feedback from my colleagues. This allows me to ensure that the final project meets expectations.
14. How do you manage tight deadlines and pressure?
Thanks to my various professional experiences, I am accustomed to working under pressure. I use time management tools, like task lists, to prioritize my activities. When deadlines are tight, I break the project into smaller steps and focus on one task at a time. This helps me stay organized and deliver my work on time without compromising quality.
15-1. Why do you prefer to work in-house rather than in an agency?
I prefer to work in-house rather than in an agency because I appreciate close collaboration with the team and the opportunity to understand the brand’s vision and objectives in depth. I believe this is much more achievable in an in-house environment. While my agency experience has been valuable, I believe that in-house work will allow me to contribute more to the development of the brand's identity.
15-2. Why do you prefer to work in an agency?
I prefer to work in an agency rather than in-house because I enjoy the dynamic and fast-paced environment that allows me to work on a variety of projects for different clients. This diversity keeps the work exciting and provides opportunities to constantly learn new skills and adapt to different brand identities. While in-house work allows for deeper involvement with a single brand, I find the challenge of handling multiple projects across various industries more stimulating and rewarding.
16. What software are you proficient in, and how have you used them in your previous projects?
I am proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. During my internship, I used Illustrator to create mockups and packaging designs, ensuring that the visual elements were consistent with the brand guidelines. I am also exploring Figma to enhance my design capabilities, particularly for collaborative projects.
17. Can you tell us about your experience in packaging design?
Although my experience in packaging design comes primarily from school projects, I've developed a profound interest in this area through my studies. For instance, I worked on packaging designs for Loop Mission's new kombucha lineup and various coffee products. During these projects, I received a lot of positive feedback from my teachers and peers, which further fueled my passion for packaging design.
18. How do you approach a new packaging design project?
My approach starts with research to understand the brand, target audience, and market trends. I believe in gathering inspiration and examining existing packaging to identify what works well. After that, I sketch out ideas and develop a few concepts that align with the brand’s identity. I value collaboration, so I would seek feedback from colleagues to refine my designs before finalizing them.
19. Can you explain the importance of brand consistency in packaging?
Brand consistency in packaging is crucial as it helps build brand recognition and trust among consumers. It ensures that all packaging materials reflect the brand’s identity, values, and messaging. Consistent packaging not only strengthens brand loyalty but also communicates professionalism and quality, which are essential for attracting and retaining customers.
20. Can you explain the importance of packaging design in visual storytelling?
Visual storytelling in packaging design is crucial for several reasons. First, it reinforces brand identity by conveying the brand's values and personality, making a memorable first impression. Second, it fosters emotional connections with consumers through design elements that evoke feelings of comfort and familiarity. Third, it effectively communicates product features and benefits using images and graphics, aiding consumer understanding and decision-making.
Additionally, compelling packaging differentiates products in a competitive market, increasing their appeal. It also enhances the overall consumer experience by making unboxing enjoyable, which contributes to positive brand associations. Finally, packaging acts as a marketing tool, as consumers often share their experiences and packaging stories, further promoting the brand.
21. How do you ensure attention to detail in your designs?
I pay close attention to detail by reviewing my designs multiple times and comparing them against the project brief and brand guidelines. I often create checklists to ensure that all elements are included and correctly aligned. Additionally, I welcome feedback from peers and mentors, as a fresh pair of eyes can often catch details that I might have missed.
22. Why do you want to work at OOO?
I want to work at OOO because I admire your commitment to innovation, results, passion, and storytelling. Your approach to pushing creative boundaries and delivering measurable outcomes aligns perfectly with my goals as a designer.
